Why London is Ideal for a Safe Get Away

The last few months have been difficult for us all. But with hospitality and attractions starting to open up, many of us are looking at ways to take a break. To get away from the house and do something different. Anything.

Cinemas and restaurants are opening slowly as well as many outdoor activities. But getting away for a few days to refresh is exactly what many people are looking for. Many are retreating to the countryside or seaside, but have you considered the riverside?

A major urban centre like London may not seem like the obvious choice but actually central London is one of the safest places in terms of infection rates in the UK.

As data from gov.uk shows, the central London areas such as Islington, Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Camden and even Westminster have infection rates far below the national average. In fact the infection rate in those areas is at just 271 on average compared with the national average of 445.

If you look at some of the traditional out of town retreats, you can actually see much higher infection rates. For example Kent is a beautiful county full of wonderful landscapes and attractions but is unfortunately experiencing an infection rate of 494 whilst the lovely seaside region of North Somerset is experiencing a rate of 426.

Even more remote areas such as Norfolk and Suffolk are well over 300.

On top of this there are also many great attractions re-opening in London now and, if you are sensible about social distancing and wearing a face mask, you can enjoy some wonderful experiences again.

These include London Zoo, Kew Gardens, Tower Bridge, The National Gallery, Hampton Court Palace and of course a wide range of pubs and restaurants. There are also drive-in theatres and boat trips to be had.

The safest way to stay of course is in a fully enclosed property and this is where short let properties are ideal. With no communal areas, lobbies or entrance halls, a fully private short let property ensures you can have an enjoyable and importantly a safe trip away.

At City Relay we introduced our SafeStay initiative in May to ensure our guests stay in properties that meet the highest cleanliness standards.

We look forward to welcome you to London soon and in the meantime, stay safe.
