As Summer is passing by so fast, you might want to make the most of these last few weeks of the sunny, warm weather. Here are some activities the whole family will love, rain or shine.
#1 Enjoy the outside with your family
School summer holiday can sometimes be a tricky time to keep the kids entertained. Lucky for you, we have a heap of fantastic options to share.
For your little ones, imagination and playfulness are key. Take a step inside the magical world of Harry Potter at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, which are featuring some special events during school holidays. Alternatively, take advantage of KidZania to help them spend their never-ending amount of energy. If your child has ever dreamt of becoming a pilot, a firefighter or the next award-winning dancer, watch the excitement on their faces as they take on those roles in real life, at Westfield London.
If your kids are older, you might want to select some more daring activities, with our best recommendation, The London Dungeon. Here is what visitlondon.com says about this activity:
“Delve into the ancient capital’s most horrible history at the London Dungeon – experience live actors, thrilling rides and exciting special effects. Step back into the darkest of times… are you brave enough to face 90 minutes of London’s dark past?”
This attraction would be perfect to fit in a day of sightseeing in the city as it is right next to the London Eye and other famous landmarks.
#2 Take in some sport!
England’s football season kicks off again in August for another breathtaking season. With 13 professional teams across London, which is more than any other city in the world, it is worth saying that football is one of London’s greatest sporting passions. Experience it yourself by getting your hands on good-value tickets and soak up the atmosphere at one of the capital’s football clubs.
Additionally, you can even tour one of the city’s legendary football grounds, including the national stadium, Wembley, and imagine the atmosphere it creates on a match day.
If you are not a fan of football, do not worry as there are numerous other sporting events taking place this month. For instance, on 11th August, Twickenham Stadium hosts England v Wales rugby match, which is followed by the Rugby league Challenge Cup final in Wembley on the 24th August. Also, be on the lookout for several cricket events throughout the month.
#3 Tour Buckingham Palace whilst the Queen is away
We told you about this last month, but it definitely is worth saying again:
From the 20th of July until 29th September, Buckingham Palace opens up its magnificent State Rooms to visitors with tours and special exhibitions, while the Queen is away on her Summer holidays.
You cannot miss touring The State Rooms of the Palace which are lavishly furnished with some of the greatest treasures from the Royal Collection. Highlights of the Buckingham Palace Summer opening include paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens, Poussin and Canaletto, sculpture by Canova and Chantrey, exquisite examples of Sèvres porcelain and some of the finest English and French furniture in the world.
#4 Come say hi for Notting Hill Carnival and experience the festivities
As you may know, our HQ is located on Portobello Road, in the heart of Notting Hill and we are awaiting Europe’s largest street festival with much excitement! The Notting Hill Carnival, is set to hit West London with a huge Caribbean party. Come join more than one million people for three days of colourful floats, parades, music and dance over the August bank holiday weekend.
Furthermore, the neighborhood is always packed with lots to do: from colourful facades to quirky, magical little shops – not forgetting the many restaurants – you will not fall short of things to discover. If your are keen on photography, Notting Hill and its Carnival are definitely a place to be.
#5 Discover London at night
As the weather is (very) warm at the moment, it is now the perfect time to get out and discover the city at night. It is amazing to see the many famous landmarks all lit up.
London is also known for its many parks and outdoor spaces! Take an evening walk and gaze over the beautifully illuminated Kew Gardens during Chihuly Nights -you are sure to not be disappointed.
