How to make an eco-friendly Airbnb in London?

Written by City Relay

Eco-friendly travellers are more and more numerous and are an excellent target for Airbnb! Staying in an Airbnb is 63% less polluting than staying in a hotel. People are attracted by this eco-friendly and local tourism. Take advantage of this trend! As there are very few eco-friendly Airbnb, for sure your efforts will make your flat stand out from the crowd! And despite what you may think, it is very easy to please Mother Nature:

1 – Opt for an eco-friendly cleaning

A green flat requires a green cleaning! Nowadays, most of the cleaning products are full of chemicals, be picky when you buy them!  A lot of new products are made with natural plants and can be found in standard supermarkets, you don’t need to go to specialized stores anymore. Opt for these chemical-free products.  Also, buy products with recycled packaging.  To find out more on eco-friendly products read this article: “The 10 best eco-cleaners“.

2-Inform your guests of the good gesture to adopt

Your guests will be the ones living and taking care of your flat for a while, make sure they adopt the right eco-friendly gesture! Leave a note explaining how to recycle their rubbish, where they can leave them, remind them to turn off every light and machine when they leave, to not waste energy. It’s important to make things easy for them! It is very likely that guests will be willing to adopt these green-friendly habits, but they won’t search by themselves for information, so leaving a note explaining everything is essential if you want things to go smoothly.

3- Be smart with your lights

LED lights are the best options for short-term rental. Compared to older lighting technologies such as Incandescent, Halogen and CFL Bulbs, they are the best energy saving solutions. Not only are they better for the environment, but they are also perfect for short-term rental as they last longer. Hence, you won’t have as many issues changing light bulbs between guests.

4- Buy natural textile

Whether it is for the linen, towels or the rugs and couches you will buy to please your guests, opt for organic textiles. Not only your guests will appreciate this touch, but it will also prevent some allergies and skin diseases.

5- Add plants

The VOC (or the volatile organic compounds) are released into your air because of all the synthetic and chemical products. You can buy some filter for your ventilation system but it is way more expensive than just to decorate your flat with some plants. Plants will be as effective and will bring a nice decorative touch.

Guests need to understand from your listing that you are concerned about your impact on the environment. Not only will it make your flat stand out from the crowd and increase your number of bookings, but it will also assure you to attract the right kind of guests, who will share your values and will be happy to recycle their rubbish, buy eco-friendly washing products if needed, etc. You can attract eco-friendly travellers towards your listing thanks to a catchy title ” Lovely eco-friendly flat in Fulham”, then add in your house description and rules that being respectful of the environment is important to you. For sure this will tip the scales in your favour! ”
